U2 and Green Day - The Saints Are Coming

Post-'O' Plans

So I finally got around to asking my mom if I could go to Thailand with the other guys, and she immediately said 'No', because it's 'Not Safe' . But then I told her we were gonna stay at Thosaporn's house and there would be Grown-Ups and seven dogs about and stuff and she agreed. So all that's left is to survive the 'O's and then I can enjoy life and just RELAX. Also, was discussing the BBQ plans with Mr Khoo over History (that explains the delay) and it's settled: 21st Nov at Thomas' Residence. So many things to look forward to, I can't wait. It's as though the 'O's is this period where time just stops and once it's over we can RELAX and be free again. Until next year lah.

Preposterous Practical

Had my first (and last)(hopefully) 'O' Level Physics practical yesterday. A wholly remarkable experience that I wish I could undergo never again. The questions they asked were not just unorthodox, but fantastically stupid too. I'm sure we all expected it to be easy, I know I did. What happened to the simple pendulum and the common torchlight? Instead we get these damned pins (I swear, the invigilator kept staring at me when i was squinting to find the image. Do you know how hard it is to close one eye and do the experiment? -no pun intended) and marbles. And the ambiguous graph - even the teachers can't tell if the answer is a curve or a straight line or a bloody smiley face =). I also tried to perfect my answers in the table, then forgot to edit the answer in the first part, and when I finally realised and changed it, time was up! And since I'm sitting right in front, I'm first, and the teacher kept glancing at me until I was forced to relinquish my grip on the pen and pass her my script with shaking hands.

But actually it didn't seem that daunting when I first entered the lab - just that all those administrative matters (like those entry papels papers) gives it an added air of importance. You don't really notice the difference between this and every other practice, just the strange invigilators and the UCLES logo on every page give a hint to its significance. And that it was carried out in the Chemistry lab. There was this poster on the wall directly in front of me which said something like 'Chemistry for the World', and everytime I looked up to think I couldn't help but notice it, and gave thanks that I dropped it when I did ( You'll understand when you see that damned poster).

Anyway I spent some time editing my blog - layout, colour schemes and such. Comments? And scroll down to have a look at what I'm Consuming. And look at all those pretty links: Google, Blogger and this amazing site, Twurler. Why don't you just go ahead and set my blog as your homepage, instead of Google. You know you want to...

Lost

An earthquake has hit Hawaii, affecting the 'Lost' cast and set. See what happens when you don't enter the numbers?

Woo bought a lot of new stuff yesterday. Since the new Harris store opened next to Popular in Parkway, and they sent me a 20% discount, I decided to drop by and get a few books. It's sort of a mixture between Kinokuniya and Borders, but much smaller. Did manage to find 2 books I wanted though - Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk (loved the movie) and Fellowship of the Ring (special 50th anniversary edition), which, surprise surprise, I haven't read yet.

And at night I finally went to Sim Lim Square where I bought a 250GB external hard drive plus another DVD drive to replace the screwed up one I have installed. Finally! I've been waiting months to get more space so I can... procure and burn more stuff. Thankfully my dad paid for it, sort of as a reward for doing well in prelims.

Won't post anything about graduation day yet, since I'm too lazy to upload pics. Check here for highlights though.

Mark's marks & remarks

I did much better for my prelims than I had hoped for. Sure I was nervous as hell when I got back the first script, History, and found I got B3. Kinda treated it as a sign of things to come, and since 6x3=18, suffice to say, I thought I was screwed. But things turned out well in the end:

English 76
E. Maths 94
A. Maths 86
GSS 70 (+7)
History 67
Physics 70 (+6)
(moderation in red)

So that makes an L1R5 of 8, and hopefully a secured place in VJC. For three months at least.

Watched Little Miss Sunshine that same Monday night with the usual suspects from History class. I had never heard of that show before Mr Khoo told us about it and was kinda wary, given Mr Khoo's previous movie outing (4:30 eugh). But it was surprisingly good and refreshing. It was really funny and much better than most other crap out there in the cinemas (Dupree, anyone?).
None of the individual characters' problems get solved at the end of the film, but it still manages to end on a high note that leaves you with a warm tingly feeling inside. It's the kind of film where, after watching, you wish you could buy the entire world a ticket (the >16 part at least).

Anyway, something Suresh said that made me do a comparison, and sure enough:

Heh. The President, no less.

Managed to, uh, procure a copy of Lost Season 3 Episode 1. Been waiting for months for it. And it's good - in true Lost fashion, with more questions than answers. Can't wait for the next ep.

Wake Me Up

Another late night post in between rounds of CS...

Prelim results will be released on Monday, so I really don't feel like going. I'd rather get all my papers and scores at one go rather than sit there nervously for a whole day acting as if we're paying attention to what the teacher is saying while thinking 'shitshitshitshit'. I hope I didn't screw up any subjects too seriously, since I have nothing to fall back on except for that wonderful thing called moderation.

My father said I had better get 12 points and below. Somehow that seems hard to achieve, but I had always aimed for not more than 10. And now I'm at a total lack of knowing what I'm gonna get. In a way it really is bloody scary. So now I'll just have to wait another 28 hours, all the while thinking 'shitshitshitshitSHIT'.
